A video of a Nigerian man confronting police officers over their demand for a NAFDAC number on locally made zobo drinks has gone viral on social media.
The incident started when the officers stopped a businesswoman carrying bottled zobo drinks for sale and questioned her about the products.
After hearing her explanation, the officers insisted that she provide a registration number from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), as well as official labels for the drinks.
One of the officers defended the demand, insisting that the drinks needed proper registration.
‘’ This thing is supposed to have NAFDAC number. Does this thing have NAFDAC number? s a police man, don’t I have the right to ask?” one of the officers said
A male bystander who witnessed the encounter later stepped in and challenged the officers over their actions.
He questioned whether the police had the legal authority to demand proof of NAFDAC registration from the businesswoman, arguing that enforcing such regulatory requirements falls outside the statutory duties of the Nigeria Police Force.
