The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Jafar Mohammed, over the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
According to Habib, the girl’s elder sister reported her missing on September 3 after she disappeared on August 5. The teenager later returned home and accused Mohammed of luring her with a promise of marriage before having sex with her without her consent.
Police investigations traced the girl’s phone number to a device in the suspect’s possession in Abuja. Detectives later arrested him in October at Hayin Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
“In the Command’s unrelenting efforts in fighting sexual and gender-based crimes, a 24 years old, Jafar Mohammed ‘M’ of Zango Ward, Bauchi, was arrested for alleged abduction and rape,” the statement read.
The police said Mohammed confessed to the allegations during interrogation. The case remains under investigation at the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni psc(+), reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for gender-based violence and abuse against minors.
“He reiterates that justice will be served and urges parents to closely monitor their wards.”
