Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has challenged opposition parties to present credible ideas that can compete with the APC’s development agenda instead of seeking change simply for its own sake.
Sanwo-Olu spoke on Tuesday at the Yoruba Tennis Club’s centenary anniversary lecture in Onikan, Lagos, attended by his wife, Ibijoke; Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat; political and traditional leaders and other guests.
“Our challenge to the opposition remains the same – to put forward credible ideas that are able to compete with ours, instead of seeking change for the sake of change. Untested novelty is no longer an option for a Lagos State that has tasted and felt the superiority of continuity,” he said.
The governor said Lagos had benefited from continuity since democracy returned in 1999, with successive administrations building on a development blueprint started under Bola Tinubu.
He identified vision, self-reliance, partnership and citizen-focused governance as key parts of the “Lagos Playbook”.
Sanwo-Olu also highlighted projects under his THEMES+ agenda, including two public universities, the Imota Rice Mill, data centres, submarine cable investments, a children’s hospital and the Lagos Central Food Security System and Logistics Hub.
Yoruba Tennis Club Chairman Olawunmi Gasper praised the governor’s administration and said the centenary offered an opportunity to reflect on democracy, governance and Lagos’ growth. The event also featured the launch of the club’s history book, groundbreaking for its Legacy Building and an exhibition of historical materials.
