Reforms Are Working – Akpabio Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Northern youths to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, urging them to back the administration’s economic reforms and ensure policy continuity.

Akpabio made the call on Saturday in Abuja when he received a delegation from the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly.

He said the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms were painful but necessary steps to reposition Nigeria’s economy. According to him, the policies have passed a critical stage and are beginning to bring benefits to Nigerians.

“I stand before you not merely as a politician, but as a public servant committed to the prosperity of our nation, and particularly this vital region,” Akpabio said.

He described the reforms as “concrete, courageous actions” aimed at removing long-standing economic problems.

Akpabio said the measures were needed to improve fiscal sustainability and redirect funds to healthcare, education and infrastructure.

He also cited improved revenue collection, stronger investor confidence and renewed international interest as early gains.

“You are architects of today, not just leaders of tomorrow,” he told the youths.

The group’s spokesperson, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Musa, praised Akpabio’s engagement with the North and pledged grassroots mobilisation to educate Nigerians on the reforms.

“National unity is the ultimate anchor of our collective survival.

“No regional sentiment can take precedence over the sovereignty and peace of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”,he said .

The assembly listed youth consultation, grassroots education on federal fiscal policies and national cohesion as its key areas of engagement ahead of 2027.
