The NYSC Director General, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has warned corps-producing institutions against submitting false or unverified data, saying such acts could damage the credibility of the scheme.
Nafiu spoke in Abuja at the opening of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop, themed ‘Strengthening Institutional Accountability, Data Integrity and Digital Innovation for Seamless NYSC Mobilisation’.
“Accountability is more than regulatory compliance. It requires every institution and officer involved in mobilisation to take ownership of assigned responsibilities, adhere to approved procedures and remain answerable for decisions and actions taken.
“Every inaccurate record, unauthorised alteration of data, delayed response or failure to meet established timelines can adversely affect the mobilisation of graduates and the credibility of the scheme,” he said.
He listed wrong personal records, unauthorised changes, unqualified persons, delayed processing, weak controls and late graduation lists among the challenges.
The NYSC also sanctioned 18 2025 Batch B corps members in Sokoto. Nine had their service extended by 10 to 75 days, while nine who absconded must repeat the full year.
State Coordinator Tyoyer Gabriel Ter said the offences included failure to report, absenteeism and truancy.
“These infractions are contrary to the provisions of the NYSC Act and the code of conduct guiding the scheme,” Ter stated.
“The law is clear. Anyone who absconds from service must repeat the service year in full. We are only implementing the guidelines to ensure discipline and accountability,” he explained.
Director, Corps Mobilisation, Idaewor Onomhoare, urged institutions to submit accurate, verified and timely records.
“I, therefore, urge all corps-producing institutions to ensure that the records submitted to the NYSC accurately represent the genuine profiles of their graduates.
“Verification, proper documentation and timely submission of information must be regarded as core institutional responsibilities and not merely routine administrative tasks,” she added.
Nafiu also praised corps members who delivered CDS projects, including Oladele Ruth Kehinde and Hadi Yahaya Ozovehe, and urged Nigerians, companies and community leaders to support such projects.
“Some of them were enthusiastic in carrying out meaningful projects. Some brought proposals, and these proposals were approved. We encourage more of that spirit,” he said.
