Gunmen Kill Three Vigilantes in Fresh Plateau Night Attack

Three vigilantes were killed when gunmen attacked the NTV community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday night.

The victims were reportedly on night duty, watching over the community against criminal attacks, when the attackers opened fire.

A resident, Niret John, confirmed the incident to The PUNCH in Jos on Wednesday. She said the attack happened around 11pm and the gunmen targeted the vigilantes while they were on watch.

She said the incident had increased fear in the community as residents continued to face growing insecurity.

Another resident, Gabriel Ayuba, said the victims were shot while carrying out their duty.

He said, “The incident happened around 11pm. The men were watching over the community when the gunmen shot at them.

“It is very sad that people who were only protecting the community were attacked and killed.”

Rwang Tengwong, spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders, also confirmed that three people died in the attack.

Tengwong called for stronger security patrols and proactive steps to protect communities, while condemning the killing of volunteers.

He said, “The people cannot continue to live in fear while those volunteering to protect their communities are being killed.”

He also urged security agencies to investigate the attack, identify the attackers and prosecute them.
