I’ll Leave My Wife If She Becomes President and Governs Like Tinubu — Former Gov Rotimi Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he would oppose his wife if she became president and governed Nigeria like President Bola Tinubu.

Amaechi made the statement during an interview with Rapid TV, where he called on Nigerians to put aside ethnic, religious and political differences and vote against Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

He used his relationship with his wife to explain why personal attachments should not stop people from speaking against bad leadership.

“Today, the closest person in my life is my wife, not my children. So tomorrow, if my wife becomes president and is doing what Tinubu is doing, I’ll be mad to follow my wife, despite my emotional attachment to her. It’s either she changes, or I leave her,” he said.

The ADC chieftain also urged Nigerians to judge Tinubu’s administration by its performance and give the opposition an opportunity to govern.

“There’s a difference between Tinubu’s team and our team. They have been tested, so you know that the next four years you will die. We have not been tested, so give us a chance,” he said.

However, Amaechi admitted that his own record could be assessed because he had served as governor and minister.

“The only person you can say that has been tested is me, because I’ve been a governor. But my record speaks for itself. I was once a minister. Projects are out there,” he added.

He further urged Nigerians to vote in large numbers in 2027 and resist attempts to manipulate the election. Citing the ongoing US elections, he encouraged Nigerians to participate actively and challenge those allegedly boasting about rigging the polls.
