Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said he is the first governor in Nigeria’s history to lead a state without owning a personal house.
Aregbesola, who was once a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, said he lived in a friend’s house throughout his eight years as governor of Osun State.
Speaking in a video shared with his followers, Aregbesola said: “I’m the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of his own.
“I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as a governor in my father’s land. Whoever says that what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own.”
The former Minister of Interior, who served under the administration of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, was governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018.
While in office as governor, Aregbesola listed his main objectives for the state. They included ending poverty, ending hunger, reducing unemployment, improving healthy living, promoting functional education, and encouraging peace and progress in communities.
