Tinubu Inherited Nigeria On Brink Of Collapse – Plateau Gov Mutfwang

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, claiming his administration inherited a country facing serious financial difficulties.

Mutfwang spoke on Monday in Jos during the inauguration of the APC campaign council. He said Nigeria was struggling to repay its foreign debts when Tinubu took office in 2023, while the Federal Government was printing money to keep the economy running.

“Where did President Tinubu meet Nigeria in 2023? He met Nigeria tottering on the brink of collapse; Nigeria that could not service its external debts; Nigeria that would not even allow businesses outside the country to take their proceeds back home.”

He added that some international airlines stopped operating in Nigeria because they could not access dollars to take their earnings out of the country. He also claimed that the nation’s foreign reserves had dropped to just over $3 billion from more than $40 billion but had now risen above $50 billion.

Mutfwang further recalled the long queues Nigerians faced at petrol stations during the Buhari administration, saying the government had reached a point where it did not know what to do.

He said fuel was now available, although it was not cheap, and noted that the country was still paying debts from the sale of future crude oil.

The governor expressed confidence that Plateau would deliver a major victory for Tinubu on January 16, 2027, and renew his own mandate two weeks later.

He urged party members to mobilise voters across their communities, wards, local governments and constituencies.
