Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has urged Nigerians to remain patient with the Federal Government as it works to tackle insecurity, poverty and other challenges.
Zulum spoke on Sunday in Kaduna after meeting Northern Nigerian women Ulama and Islamic scholars.
He said Northern leaders had agreed to support President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, with the understanding that power would return to the North afterwards. He said the move was aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence between Northern and Southern Nigeria.
“About five years ago, we decided to ensure unity in Northern Nigeria, and we have achieved our objective,” Zulum said.
He urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s administration and allow it to strengthen its policies and programmes.
Zulum said northern elites had also discussed insecurity, out-of-school children and poverty, leading to decisions aimed at improving people’s lives.
He called on women to promote peace in their communities, stressing their influence in families.
“Women should be given the opportunity to nurture their children so they can live in peace,” he said.
He also urged patience during difficult times.
“Whenever God tests us with a trial, patience is necessary before relief comes,” he said.
Zulum said politics should not affect peaceful coexistence and urged the North to allow the South to complete its tenure while both regions work towards the future.
“I speak from the heart, not out of fear of anyone, but in the name of God,” he said.
He said women made up about 60 to 65 per cent of votes cast in Borno and stressed their role in promoting peace, unity and responsible political participation.
