Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly made his decision to quit international football without discussing it with Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that the pair have not spoken since September 30, despite Ronaldo informing Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença about his decision.
The report also claims that the 41-year-old forward no longer wants to play under Jesus.
Ronaldo reportedly announced his retirement shortly before Portugal was expected to release its squad for the November international break. The timing was said to be an attempt to avoid being called up.
Jesus was reportedly planning to include the Al-Nassr striker in his squad for the upcoming matches but was caught off guard by the sudden announcement.
The development means the Portugal coach was left unaware of Ronaldo’s decision until the forward had already made his position clear.
