Afrobeats star Burna Boy has reunited with Colombian music icon Shakira as they prepare to perform at the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show.
On Friday, Burna Boy posted a video on his X account showing the two stars sharing hugs, smiles and laughter during rehearsals for Sunday’s historic event at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States.
The Grammy winner shared the post with the caption: “Sunday Prep! @shakira See you at the @FIFAWorldCup Final! Dai dai, ikó, dale, allez, let’s go!”
The video, along with several photos, showed Burna Boy and Shakira in casual outfits as they hugged outside the production trailers at the stadium while getting ready for the much-anticipated performance.
FIFA had earlier confirmed that Burna Boy and Shakira will perform Dai Dai, the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, during the tournament’s first Super Bowl-style halftime show.
PUNCH Online had earlier reported that the usual 15-minute halftime break would likely be extended to make room for the entertainment show, with television broadcasters expected to allow a break of about 30 minutes.
The longer interval is expected to include the regular 15 minutes of match analysis, along with an 11-minute live performance by Burna Boy and Shakira.
FIFA also unveiled a star-studded lineup for the halftime show. It includes BTS, Madonna, Justin Bieber, renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus with Coldplay, as well as appearances by Sesame Street and The Muppets.
Aside from the entertainment, the halftime show is also expected to promote global education programmes designed to support children across the world.
Sunday’s World Cup final will see reigning Copa América champions Argentina face European champions Spain.
Burna Boy and Shakira earlier performed Dai Dai during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City, where the song was officially unveiled as the anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
