FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has said he would have gone to Osun State to help the All Progressives Congress (APC) win the governorship election if President Bola Tinubu had wanted victory “at all costs.”
Wike spoke on Tuesday while addressing journalists during an inspection of flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja.
He was reacting to the outcome of the Osun governorship election, which was won by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Wike, who is still a PDP member but supports the Tinubu administration, said the APC could have won if the President had been determined to secure victory regardless of the circumstances.
He said, “If the President had wanted to win the Osun State election at all costs, I would have been there and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do.”
His comment came after the APC lost the election, with Adeleke declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Wike, a former Rivers State governor, was a key member of the G5 group of PDP governors who opposed the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
Since Tinubu appointed him FCT minister, Wike has remained in the PDP while openly backing the President and some of his policies.
He has also stayed politically active while serving in an APC-led government, insisting that supporting Tinubu does not mean he has left the PDP.
