Please Stop Calling Me Your Leader, He’s Our Common Leader Now — Gov. Fubara Tells Supporters, Bows To Wike

Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has asked his supporters to stop addressing him as their political leader, directing them instead to recognise the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as the common leader of political groups in the state.

Fubara made the announcement on Tuesday, October 27, during the official unveiling of the Rainbow Coalition at Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Addressing members of the coalition, the governor referred to the political crisis that some of his supporters had stood by him through. He said the new alliance required everyone to accept its leadership structure rather than continue treating him as their leader.

Fubara explained that although he remains their governor, the political arrangement now has a common leader. He urged his former supporters to put an end to the repeated use of the title.

“Let me say something here so that it will always help us while we move forward. I’m aware there are some issues where some persons who followed me when we had the crisis, when you’re in your meeting, you say, ‘My leader, my leader.’ We are now in one house. And because we have one house, there is no issue about who is the leader. I might be your oga (governor), but we have a common leader now. So please, going forward, this issue of ‘my leader, my leader, my leader’, I want it resolved here and now.”
