The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has told prospective corps members they will not be mobilised for national service without clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).
The warning was shared on Monday in a public notice on the scheme’s official X account. The NYSC urged prospective corps members to complete the verification process early to avoid delays in mobilisation.
The scheme said NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for everyone seeking to take part in the national service programme.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.
It further stressed: “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
While the NYSC did not explain the clearance process, the directive points to a tighter verification system ahead of the mobilisation of the next batch of corps members.
The notice came shortly after the scheme announced the mobilisation of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year and advised tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the orientation exercise.
It also follows a recent safety advisory urging prospective corps members not to travel to orientation camps at night.
The NYSC advised them to break their journeys when necessary and stay overnight in safe places or designated military and other security formations instead of travelling after dark.
Eligible graduates are expected to complete all registration and verification requirements, including the mandatory NERD clearance, before they can be mobilised for national service.
