The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) has arrested at least 130 suspected hoodlums during an early morning raid in parts of Lagos.
The operation started around 2:00 a.m. on Friday and covered Victoria Island, Lekki-Ajah and parts of the coastal road.
LNSA General Manager, Ifalade Oyekan, who led the operation, said the suspects were screened and handed over to the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASSRA) team attached to the agency.
He said the exercise was to identify and profile the suspects, adding that those found culpable would be prosecuted.
Oyekan said the raid followed reports of criminals targeting motorists, especially during traffic congestion.
He said the operation was part of the agency’s community policing strategy, which involves residents and other security agencies to identify and quickly tackle security threats.
He added that the initiative supports the state government’s efforts to strengthen grassroots security and establish a state police structure.
“I commend the supporting agencies for their professionalism and coordination during the operation,” Oyekan said.
He thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Commissioner for Special Duties, Gbenga Oyerinde, for their support.
“We will continue similar joint operations at strategic locations across Lagos to deter criminal activities and enhance public safety,” Oyekan said.
The operation was supported by KAI and an armed Nigeria Police Force detachment. It was facilitated by the governor’s Chief Security Officer, Kunle Fagbemi.
