Three Nigerians have been arrested in Ghana over alleged robberies involving customers of banks in Kumasi and nearby areas.
Godwin Ahianyo, police spokesperson for the Ashanti Region, confirmed the arrests on Tuesday. He said the operation took place around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after the police received intelligence about the suspects.
Two of the suspects, identified as Aboy Promise, 30, and Favour Uwalaka, 45, were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo.
Police searched their rooms and recovered GH¢1,600, several mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key allegedly used to open victims’ vehicles and steal money.
“A search conducted in their rooms resulted in the recovery of GH¢1,600.00, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key used to gain unauthorised access to victims’ vehicles and steal cash,” he said.
During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crimes and named two accomplices, Chinedu, also known as Alhaji, and Kingsley, known as KC.
Police said the group watched bank customers withdrawing large amounts before following and robbing them. They also used the master key to break into unattended vehicles and steal cash.
The suspects later led officers to another hotel in Dechemso, where Kingsley, 35, was arrested. Chinedu remains at large.
The police urged anyone with information about him to visit the nearest station or call 191, 112 or 18555.
The suspects also admitted robbing a customer of GH¢15,000 on October 27, 2026, after a withdrawal from Kwamang Rural Bank. They confessed to similar attacks at Fidelity Bank’s Atonsu branch, Access Bank’s Ahodwo branch and other locations.
The three suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional police command and are assisting with investigations.
