A Nigerian woman has faced criticism online after expressing anger over her mother’s decision to marry her father, claiming it has affected the opportunities available to her in life.
In a widely shared video, the lady said she had repeatedly questioned her mother about choosing a man she believes was below her family’s financial and social status.
She explained that her mother came from a wealthy and comfortable home, with several maternal uncles living abroad. However, she questioned why her mother chose her father despite coming from a less privileged background.
‘’My mum married down and it’s affecting me. I have been so angry I even changed my surname. It annoys me. I am angry. I have told her that I am very disappointed in her. She left better men to get pregnant for and ended up with Victor?’she said
The woman also argued that her mother’s decision had limited her chances of achieving more in life. She claimed that her hard work would have taken her further if she had grown up in a wealthier home or a first-world country.
She further questioned why her mother expected her to follow the same path when, in her view, it comes with avoidable financial difficulties.
The video has attracted mixed reactions online. While some people expressed understanding over the challenges of financial hardship, many others condemned her comments, describing her as disrespectful, entitled and ungrateful to her parents.
