The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has resigned from his position.
Gusau announced his resignation at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, saying he had also stepped down alongside other members of the NFF board with immediate effect.
“I just want to tell you that I decided to resign my position as the NFF President,” Gusau said.
“I informed my board members and advised them that anybody who wants to follow me to also resign.
“But as I am talking to you I cannot tell you who and who or how many board members that have resigned.”
The resignation comes amid growing scrutiny of the NFF over its handling of football in Nigeria.
The pressure followed the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Nigeria had qualified for every edition of the tournament since it began.
The Super Eagles have also missed out on back-to-back World Cups after failing to qualify for the 2026 edition.
