President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the creation of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran, located in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, to boost security across the state.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola.
The military base is expected to improve security operations, especially in areas facing bandit attacks, kidnappings and other criminal activities.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq praised President Tinubu for approving the battalion, saying the decision would strengthen security with more troops and military equipment.
He also thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for quickly handling the state’s request for a stronger military presence.
The governor said the new battalion would improve the ability of security agencies to deal with threats from bandits, terrorists and other criminal groups.
“On behalf of the people and government of our state, I wholeheartedly thank Mr. President for yet another promise kept to the state. We are confident that the new battalion will greatly strengthen counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across various areas,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
AbdulRazaq also praised the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their continued work in addressing insecurity across the state.
He added that the government would keep supporting joint security operations to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes while protecting lives and property across Kwara State.
