Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has appointed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai was named among other members of the campaign council approved by Atiku while he remains in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The campaign council will be headed by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as Chairman, with Senator Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu serving as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
As Deputy Chairman, El-Rufai is expected to handle high-level political coordination and engage key stakeholders across the country, according to the campaign structure.
His appointment comes as he remains in ICPC custody over an ongoing investigation and related legal proceedings.
The former Kaduna governor is also involved in a separate legal case filed by the Department of State Services over allegations linked to the interception of communications involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
