A US lawmaker has raised fresh concerns over the alleged killing of Christians in Plateau State, accusing Fulani ethnic militia terrorists and Islamist extremists of carrying out repeated attacks on communities.
US Representative Anna Paulina made the claims in a statement posted on her verified X account on Friday. She also accused the state and federal governments of failing to do enough to protect Christians facing regular attacks.
In a post titled, “What is happening in Nigeria right now?”, Paulina said thousands of Christians in Plateau were facing a mortal threat as security forces struggled to contain the violence.
“Hundreds of Fulani ethnic militia terrorists descended on Christian communities across Plateau State.
“Thousands of civilians are under mortal threat while the Nigerian Army and security forces struggle to hold the line,” Paulina wrote.
She said the latest attacks came after several violent incidents involving Christians and other civilians.
“A pastor and his church secretary were shot dead on their way to church. Five Christians were ambushed in their car.
“A civilian guard was killed outside his own home. A man and his son were beaten and left in critical condition,” the lawmaker said.
Paulina also questioned why earlier warnings and security alerts issued before the attacks were not taken seriously by security agencies.
