Barcelona have decided not to pursue a move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen this summer, despite checking on his situation at Galatasaray. His salary demands have become the biggest reason for the club’s decision.
The Spanish side had monitored the 27-year-old for weeks as questions surrounded his future in Turkey, where he has remained one of Europe’s most consistent goalscorers.
According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona dropped their interest even though they were looking for a reliable No. 9 following Robert Lewandowski’s departure at the end of the 2025/26 season to join MLS club Chicago Fire after a successful spell with the Catalan side.
Osimhen is said to earn about €15 million net per season, plus bonuses and image rights. Reports say he is not ready to lower those demands.
Barcelona believe that salary package is too expensive as the club continues to deal with financial limits and does not want to upset its wage structure.
His transfer fee is another concern. Galatasaray reportedly value him at around €75 million. While his scoring record is impressive, Barcelona feel the overall cost is too high.
The club also have concerns about his temperament, with reports suggesting his personality could affect dressing-room harmony. Although his talent is not in doubt, Barcelona believe the possible issues outweigh the benefits.
Osimhen scored 76 goals in 133 games for Napoli before joining Galatasaray, where he has added 59 goals in 74 appearances.
Tottenham Hotspur remain among the leading clubs interested in signing him. Their reported opening offer of around €60 million was rejected by Galatasaray, but the Premier League side could return with an improved bid. For Barcelona, however, the pursuit is over because of the financial demands involved.
