The Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS) has explained how suspected bandits killed three of its officers shortly after abducting Sanusi, the younger brother of Alhaji Shehu Pambegua, who represents Kubau Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
KADVS Public Relations Officer Yunusa Ibrahim said in a statement on Tuesday that Sanusi was taken from his residence in Kubau Local Government Area around 10 p.m. on Monday. The suspects reportedly arrived in a Sharon vehicle.
The slain officers were identified as Dallami Dantani, KADVS Second-in-Command in Kubau, Abdullahi Hamisu and Zakariyya Musa.
Ibrahim said the officers were carrying out routine checks along the Zaria-Pambegua axis when they tried to stop a red Volkswagen Golf Salon. The driver refused, leading to a chase in an official patrol van.
The suspects opened fire, killing Dantani during the pursuit. They then returned towards the KADVS office and fatally shot Hamisu and Musa before escaping towards Zaria.
KADVS Commander CP Ali Audu (rtd.) mourned the officers and assured their families of continued support. He said surveillance had been increased in Pambegua and nearby communities as efforts continued to rescue Sanusi and arrest those behind the attacks.
