Oluremi Tinubu Calls For More Attention To Adult Education, Gives Reason

First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja stressed the key role of literacy in personal empowerment and national development.

Tinubu made the remarks in her message marking the 60th anniversary of International Literacy Day 2026, themed “Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity,”

She also stressed the need to ensure everyone has access to quality education, while calling for greater focus on adult education and development.

According to her, better access to knowledge would help people make informed decisions.

She said “when adults can read, write and acquire basic digital and financial skills, they are better equipped to improve their livelihoods, grow their businesses and support their children’s education.

She added: “This important milestone provides another opportunity to renew our commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian is denied the opportunity to learn because of age or circumstance.

“Let us work together to build a more literate, productive and prosperous nation. Happy International Literacy Day 2026.”
