Gorau village in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State was thrown into fresh mourning on Wednesday after armed bandits attacked the community, killing four residents, injuring seven and abducting four others.
The attackers reportedly stormed the village and opened fire, sending residents fleeing for safety. Four people were killed, while seven others suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The bandits also abducted four residents before fleeing with their victims, raising fresh fears among families about their safety.
The attack came just days after a tragic boat accident at the Gorau crossing point reportedly killed 65 passengers, including women and children.
The latest incident has deepened the grief in Gorau and nearby communities, where residents are still struggling to cope with the boat tragedy.
The back-to-back incidents have also raised fresh concerns about the safety of remote communities in Goronyo. Many residents depend on farming, fishing, transportation and other activities for their livelihoods.
Residents are calling for urgent and sustained security measures to protect communities and stop further attacks.
There are also renewed calls for more security personnel and operational resources in vulnerable communities across Goronyo and other parts of Sokoto State.
Meanwhile, families affected by the boat tragedy continue to mourn the loss of breadwinners, women and children.
As the injured victims receive treatment and families await news about those abducted, the latest attack has further worsened the fear and despair in Gorau.
