The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have ended multiple payments for O’Level result verification by candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
Under the new system, candidates will pay a one-time fee of N4,000 to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. The verified results can then be used by institutions for admission screening and processing.
The two examination bodies announced this in a joint statement on the newly introduced WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
They warned institutions against collecting another verification fee from candidates whose results have already been verified through the JAMB platform.
“Candidates are to pay N4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions,” they said.
Candidates applying to JAMB-regulated tertiary institutions will verify their WAEC results once through the board’s platform. WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verified results with relevant institutions for screening, admission processing and other approved administrative purposes.
“The institutions, therefore, are not expected to demand another payment from candidates for verification of the same WASSCE O’Level results,” the organisations warned.
The new arrangement is expected to ease the financial burden on candidates applying to multiple institutions.
Candidates can complete the verification from home or any internet-enabled location, reducing repeated visits to institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres.
JAMB and WAEC said the partnership will simplify the process, reduce costs and logistical stress, and protect the integrity of candidates’ academic records.
