President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, said President Bola Tinubu inherited an economy in shambles but has changed the situation through new ideas and economic reengineering.
Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio said the APC would have enough achievements to present during its 2027 campaign and expressed confidence that Tinubu would win a second term.
He spoke while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFUND, led by Senator Mohammed Dandutse.
“The current President has done a lot for Nigerians. He met an economy in shambles. When he came in, 27 states could not pay salaries and pensions, but today, the story has changed because of his reengineering and thinking out of the box,” he said.
Akpabio said Nigerians would judge the government by its record and challenged opposition politicians to present their own achievements.
“Those in the opposition know too well the achievements of this government in the area of the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal policy, but because they are in the opposition, they won’t say it,” he said.
He also praised the 10th National Assembly, saying the Senate would continue working with the executive to achieve more for Nigerians.
Dandutse said the visit was part of the committee’s constitutional duty and praised the National Assembly’s education-related legislation.
Meanwhile, Akpabio congratulated Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III on his 70th birthday, praising his service, wisdom, interfaith dialogue and efforts toward peace, unity and national reconciliation.
“Your reign as the Sultan of Sokoto has been defined by grace, statesmanship and an unwavering commitment to peace, unity and national cohesion. At 70, you remain a father to all and a moral compass for our nation,” Akpabio said.
