African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has promised uninterrupted electricity across Nigeria within three years if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Channels Television, Sowore said his government would dismantle the national electricity grid and replace it with regional grids using solar, gas, hydro and biogas.
He said Nigeria needs more than 60,000 megawatts to return the economy to a productive level, adding that he already has a plan to achieve uninterrupted power within three years.
“I will give you that in less than three years and I mean it. I’m serious. I have done my research and I figured out how it will work and I know what to do to change it and which is what to put where,” he said.
“I hate the national grid by name and by practice and by existence. I will take it apart so that you have regional grid and you have different mixings of electrical generation supply,” he said.
Sowore said households could also generate solar power and sell excess electricity to neighbours or regional bodies.
He linked poor power supply to Nigeria’s weak industrial capacity, saying high electricity costs make local products less competitive than imports, including Ankara fabric from China.
He said better power supply would also create jobs through new generation, transmission and distribution projects.
Sowore also repeated his ₦500,000 monthly living minimum wage proposal, saying it would be funded by cutting waste, blocking leakages, recovering unpaid oil royalties and reducing unnecessary spending. He proposed blockchain monitoring of government revenue and spending.
On healthcare, he backed telemedicine, better facilities and remote consultations by Nigerian doctors abroad. He also said he would not seek medical treatment outside Nigeria if elected.
His wider promises include 24-hour electricity, free education, one million public mixed-income homes and reforms to reduce advance rent payments.
