A disagreement over a rent increase has turned violent in Benin City, Edo State, after a tenant allegedly smashed his landlord’s head during a confrontation.

The dispute reportedly started after the tenant spent his own money on tiling work in the apartment to support his business.

In a video shared on Friday, October 30, the tenant explained that his landlord questioned him about the renovation on the morning of the incident.

He claimed that the landlord demanded extra payment for the work and later raised his rent from ₦300,000 to ₦1 million.

The tenant said the argument became physical after the landlord allegedly slapped him. He claimed he reacted by hitting the landlord on the head.

Explaining his actions, the tenant said:

“He slapped me first and out of my defence, I smashed his head. It wasn’t intentional,”

The confrontation reportedly left the landlord with serious head injuries.
