Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has challenged fellow artistes to a $1m hit-song battle, insisting that no contemporary musician has more hit songs than him.
Davido made the claim during a recent online interaction with streamer Davrel.
The singer said he was willing to put $1m in cash on the table against any artiste ready to face him in a battle of hit songs.
“I will put up a $1M on the table. I will do it versus anybody. A million dollars cash, nobody has more hits than me,” he said.
His claim has triggered reactions from music fans on X, with some questioning his statement while others backed artistes such as Olamide and Kizz Daniel.
Reacting to the challenge, X user Giwa Sulaimon Gbenga wrote, “Hit is relative but if it’s anything to do with street acceptance, temporary waves and vibes then Olamide and Kizz Daniel (Vaddo) can lay claim to that. It’s a different ball game when talking about evergreen and lyrics.”
Another user, @Odunayomi50, said he enjoys Davido’s music but would choose Olamide in a hit-song battle.
“I love Davido music but when it comes to hit songs I go with Baddo,” the user wrote.
Meanwhile, @MEtinsoedi2 criticised Davido’s public persona, writing, “Once you start seeing Davido as a content creator and not a musician, his attitude won’t surprise you again.”
The reactions have added to the debate over which Nigerian artiste has the strongest catalogue of hit songs.
