A Catholic priest has drawn attention after a video showed him leading worshippers in a church service while singing in support of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The incident happened during a Sunday church service, with the priest leading the congregation in an Igbo song describing the NDC as a better political platform.
The video, which has gone viral on X, showed members of the congregation joining the priest as he sang in praise of the two politicians.
“Party Peter Obi ka mma; Party Kwankwaso, ka mma! [Peter Obi’s party is better; Kwankwaso’s party is better!],” the priest sang.
The development comes as religious leaders increasingly take positions on political candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. While some have openly criticised certain contenders, others have declared their support for particular politicians.
