PDP Leaders Meet Jonathan in Abuja Ahead of 2027 Election

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Taminu Turaki on Friday held a meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan as attention shifts to the 2027 general election.

Before the meeting, the faction had named Jonathan, in his absence, as its presidential candidate for next year’s election.

He did not attend the event where his nomination was officially confirmed.

Although the faction has presented him as its presidential candidate, Jonathan has not publicly announced that he will contest the 2027 presidential election.

On May 7, Jonathan said he would consult widely before making a decision on whether to join the 2027 race. His comment came after a group of protesters marched to his Abuja office and asked him to declare his ambition for the presidency.

Since then, the former president has not spoken to the media on the issue.

As of the time this report was filed, details of the meeting between the Turaki-led PDP faction and Jonathan had not been made public.
