The Kano State police command says one person was killed and three others hurt after a man allegedly opened fire during a marriage ceremony, popularly known as a “DJ” event.
The command’s public relations officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, said the shooting happened at Tudun Yola on August 16. He said police arrested a 34-year-old man, Rabiu Mukhtar, in connection with the case.
The PPRO said the suspect allegedly used a pump-action gun to shoot four people. The police recovered the gun from the suspect’s possession. The victims were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, for treatment. They are Sadiq Abubakar, Umar Rabiu, Muhammad Sadisu and Aliyu Mustapha.
Mr Haruna-Kiyawa said Aliyu Mustapha later died in the hospital. The other three are responding to treatment. Mr Mukhtar and one other person were apprehended and taken into custody for investigation at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
He explained that preliminary information indicated the incident was triggered by music that some people did not like. Mr Haruna-Kiyawa added the suspect told police he opened fire after he heard that thugs, ‘Yan daba ’, were coming to the venue.
The PPRO said the suspects would be prosecuted after the investigation was completed. (NAN)
