The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the death of 23-year-old student Faith Alayande, who fell from the rooftop of its Lagos Campus hostel while on an externship programme.
The institution disclosed this in a Monday statement signed by its Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke O. Osho.
Alayande, a student of the Enugu Campus, was temporarily staying at the Lagos Campus hostel for her externship. The incident happened at about 4am on Friday, August 7, 2026.
“Preliminary information indicates that, at about 4:00 am on Friday, 7 August 2026, the student fell from the rooftop of the hostel at the Campus and, sadly, succumbed to the incident,” the statement read.
The school said it was working with authorities and Alayande’s family to establish what happened.
“Management is working closely with the appropriate authorities and the family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, ensure that all necessary procedures are duly followed, and provide further information as appropriate,” it stated.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident, saying the hostel matron reported finding the student unresponsive. Police visited the scene and moved her body to a morgue as investigations continued.
A hostel mate and relative reportedly found a suicide note before searching for Alayande, who was later found unresponsive after the fall. The Law School did not provide further details.
“The Management extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to the family, colleagues and all those affected by this distressing incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time,” it added.
The school urged the public and media to respect the family’s privacy and reaffirmed its commitment to student and staff safety and welfare.
