France captain Kylian Mbappe believes Argentina skipper Lionel Messi will find the net when Lionel Scaloni’s team take on Spain in Sunday’s World Cup final.
Mbappe made the prediction during his post-match interview after France lost to England in the World Cup third-place playoff on Saturday night.
The Real Madrid star, who tops the Golden Boot race with 10 goals, said Messi has a habit of scoring whenever he plays.
“Leo will score [in the final], that is for sure, he scores every time,” Mbappe told French broadcaster M6.
“I try to help my team score. It’s true that when you score so many goals in the World Cup, it elevates you in certain areas, but I would have preferred not to be the all-time top scorer and to play in the match [the World Cup final].
“It’s good for my legacy to be remembered as one of those players, but that is not what is on my mind right now,” he said.
Mbappe currently leads Messi by two goals in the battle for the World Cup Golden Boot.
