The Students’ Union Government of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has asked students to stay at home on Monday in protest against the recent increase in school fees.
In a statement released on Sunday, the union said the decision came after talks with the institution’s management failed to resolve concerns over the revised fees.
The statement, signed by Students’ Union President Afolabi Temitope, Acting Speaker Olorode Kehinde, General Secretary Ekundayo Gbenga and Public Relations Officer Oloyede Ganiyu, said the union had met several times with the management since the new fees appeared on the students’ portal.
“Despite our sustained efforts and several rounds of dialogue, the concerns of students remain unresolved. The Students’ Union believes that the prevailing economic realities make it increasingly difficult for many students and parents to bear additional financial burdens,” the statement read.
The union said it could not ignore students’ concerns and remained committed to responsible leadership, peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement.
It directed all students to stay away from lectures and other academic activities on Monday.
“Consequently, after careful deliberation, the Students’ Union Government hereby directs all MAPOLY students to observe a peaceful sit-at-home on Monday, 3rd August, 2026, as a demonstration of our collective dissatisfaction with the recent increase in school fees and a call for further reconsideration by the appropriate authorities,” it stated.
The union stressed the protest was peaceful and not a call for violence, destruction of property or intimidation. It urged students to remain orderly, avoid confrontations and rely only on official union updates.
It also appealed to transport operators around the campus to suspend services in support of the protest, adding that negotiations with the management would continue.
