The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, has expelled six students for gross examination misconduct after they were found to have rewritten BOT102, Introduction to Plant Science, at the private residence of lecturer Dr Maji Okpanachi.
Nine others were withdrawn over poor academic performance or failure to register for two consecutive semesters.
The decisions were reached at the 167th Regular Senate Meeting on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the University Auditorium.
According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, management received credible information on July 1 that students were being coordinated to rewrite an examination at Okpanachi’s residence. Security operatives arrested him and some students there and recovered exhibits.
The Examination Misconduct Committee confirmed the security report, confessional statements and other records. It found that affected students allegedly paid ₦10,000 each to rewrite the examination.
The expelled students are Itodo Ojonugwa Jeremiah (26PL1071), Olloh Kizito Ojoajogwu (26PL1033), Okpanachi Favour (26PL1065), Abdulkadiri Senusi (26PL1031), Umar Imran (26PL1038) and Lawrence Salami (26PL1124).
Senate also referred Okpanachi to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
The nine withdrawn students include Suleiman Salamatu (22SC1059), Abdullahi Hossana (21BF1003), Anaja Victor Anome (21BF1043), Emmanuel Arome (21BF1075), Odutola Nancy Oluwanifemi (21BF1138), Olarewaju Segun Abayomi (21BF1147), Adam Safiyat (24MC1065), Musa Favour (24MC1086) and Umolo John Philip (24MC1192).
Meanwhile, Jude Ojoajogwu Itodo (26PL1068) was referred back for further investigation.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic excellence, discipline, integrity, patriotism and quality assurance.
“The University would not tolerate any act capable of compromising the credibility and integrity of its academic and examination processes,” Usman said.
He praised the investigating committees and urged students to remain focused, maintain good character and obey academic regulations.
The affected students were ordered to surrender university property, including identity cards and other official items, before leaving the institution.
