A fresh multiple-vehicle crash involving three trucks and a car has been reported at Otedola on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, inward Berger, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the crash happened shortly before the Otedola Bridge. Its officers were quickly sent to the scene for rescue and evacuation, alongside the Nigerian Police Force and other first responders.
“A multiple-vehicle accident involving three trucks and a car has occurred at Otedola, just before the bridge inward Berger.
“Our officers have promptly mobilised to the scene to commence necessary interventions, including rescue and evacuation operations. Personnel of the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant first responders are also on the ground to support and facilitate the operations,” the agency stated.
LASTMA said the crash had caused a traffic backlog stretching as far as the Toll Gate. Its personnel were working to control the traffic and restore normal movement.
“Traffic management efforts are ongoing to mitigate the impact and restore normal vehicular movement,” the agency said.
The latest crash comes while motorists are still dealing with the heavy traffic caused by Tuesday’s seven-vehicle crash at Kara Bridge, where repair works are ongoing.
The Kara crash caused major disruption towards Ogun State, with the gridlock stretching beyond Long Bridge to Magboro and into Lagos.
After more than 14 hours, commuters remained trapped, while some motorists drove against traffic to escape the congestion, creating another bottleneck for vehicles heading towards Lagos.
Correspondents observed that traffic from Lagos towards Ogun State was already heavy by 7am Tuesday and worsened throughout the day.
