Peter Obi has raised concerns about his safety ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying he is not certain he will be alive when Nigerians go to the polls.
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) spoke during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday.
The former Anambra governor said he had been petitioned and investigated in different places, leaving him unsure of what could happen to him.
“As I speak to you, I have also been petitioned, I’ve been investigated everywhere. Like I said before, I’m not even sure whether I’ll still be alive at the end of this,” he said.
Obi said he was trusting God for protection and urged politicians to create a peaceful environment for the elections.
“I’m praying to God for His protection because at this stage, I’m not sure what is happening,” he added.
He also asked governors to allow presidential candidates and other aspirants to campaign freely, saying they could back their preferred candidates while giving others room to participate.
“Some of them will be campaigning for presidency tomorrow. They will be campaigning for other offices tomorrow. Let’s have peace,” he said.
Obi recalled that while he was Anambra governor, he allowed politicians from other parties to campaign in the state, even when they supported his opponents.
