Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has assured Nigerians that police officers will act professionally before, during and after the 2027 general elections, promising that their conduct will make the public proud of the force.
Disu gave the assurance while speaking with journalists after the launch of “The Origin of Women in Nigeria Police Force”, written by 96-year-old retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Dame Stella Okuyiga, one of the first 20 female officers to join the force.
He said the police had held a meeting with commissioners of police and other senior officers to prepare for the elections.
“I want to let you know that we just finished a conference of all commissioners of police and other senior officers. We have had two or three elections recently, and you can see the police did very well, and we did too.
“We have now brought all these experiences together, where we did well and where we did not do well, so that we can perform better in this big election that everybody is looking up to.
“I give you my word. Nigeria Police will do so well, and we will make Nigeria Police so proud, and we will make Nigerians proud.”
Disu praised Okuyiga for documenting her experience and knowledge for future generations. He said the police would provide copies of the book to all police training institutions.
Okuyiga said the publication would help preserve her legacy, adding that she was happy people would continue reading her story in libraries worldwide.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, represented by Secretary to the State Government Dr Dagogo Wokama, launched the book with N20 million.
