‘I Won’t Be 40 Still Dragging Stage With Younger Artistes’ — Davido Hints at Retirement

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has hinted that he may take a break from music.

Speaking on ‘The Uncut Podcast’, Davido said he does not plan to still be in the spotlight at 40 while competing with artistes in their 20s.

He stressed that his comments should not be seen as telling established musicians to leave the industry.

“Music is my blood but I’m not going to be 40 still dragging with guys in their 20s. Jay-z took a break and he is doing his thing,” he said.

Davido said he could leave music for many years and still return to major success because of his strong catalogue.

“I can take a 10yrs break and still do a 50-arena tour. I have the catalogue. I might decide not to make another song for the rest of my life, and nobody is touching my catalogue,” the singer stated.

The 33-year-old added that music should give artistes the chance to explore other opportunities beyond recording and performing.

“All I am saying is there are other things music should be able to help you branch out into,” Davido added.
