Gov Sanwo-Olu Surprises LASU’s Best Graduating Students With Huge Cash Gift

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a N20m cash gift each for the overall best graduating students of Lagos State University for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.

Sanwo-Olu made the announcement on Wednesday during LASU’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies at the main campus in Ojo.

According to a statement shared on X by his New Media aide, Jubril Gawat, the beneficiaries are Ayilara Olawale, best graduating student for 2024/2025, and Adebanjo Oluolamide, best graduating student for 2025/2026.

Gawat wrote, “Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu and Visitor of the Lagos State University (LASU) today announced a cash gift of 20 million Naira (20,000,000) EACH for the Best Graduating Student(s) of the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 Session(s).”

Olawale studied Project Management Technology and graduated with a 4.96 CGPA and First Class Honours. Oluolamide, who studied Aerospace Engineering, finished with a 4.97 CGPA and First Class Honours.

The statement said each graduate would receive the N20m. In a video shared with the statement, Sanwo-Olu said the money was his personal donation.

“Ayilara Lawal Olawale and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, each one of you will earn 20 million naira each,” he said.

The announcement came days after Oluolamide received another N10m from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme for emerging as LASU’s overall best graduating student for 2025/2026.

LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, had earlier announced the two students ahead of the convocation.

The university said more than 20,000 students would graduate across both sessions, including 494 first-class graduates.

Olawale described his achievement as divine grace, writing, “Grateful beyond words to graduate as the Best Graduating Student of Lagos State University, Ojo, for the 2024/2025 Session. Every victory was by Allah’s grace. Here’s to bigger dreams, impact, and a lifetime of excellence,” he wrote on X.

Oluolamide wrote, “4.97 / 5.00 CGPA. First Class Honours in Aerospace Engineering at Lagos State University. Official Senate Approval.”

He added, “All glory to God for His grace, wisdom, and strength every step of the way. What God cannot do does not exist!”
