Nigeria’s passport has slipped to 90th place in the latest Henley Passport Index, but holders can still visit 44 destinations without getting a visa before leaving the country.
Henley & Partners released the July 2026 ranking on Tuesday, giving the Nigerian passport a visa-free score of 44.
This allows Nigerians to enter 44 destinations through visa-free access, visa on arrival, or an electronic visa (e-visa), depending on each country’s travel rules.
The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports using data from the International Air Transport Association. The ranking is based on how many destinations passport holders can enter without first securing a visa.
Nigeria dropped one spot from 89th place in the April 2026 ranking to 90th in the latest edition. However, its visa-free score remained at 44.
The country has still made progress compared to previous years, moving up from 94th place in 2025 and 103rd in 2021.
