Nigerian comedian and actor Okey Bakassi has revealed that his wife, Ezinne, recently asked him for a divorce after years of supporting her and their children.
In a video circulating online, the actor, whose real name is Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, said his wife moved to the United States to attend nursing school, taking their children with her.
He explained that although he earned his income in naira, he worked hard for 15 years and sent money abroad to cater for his wife and children.
However, he said his wife called him last week and told him they no longer had a real marriage.
“My children went with my wife when she moved to the United States to attend nursing school. I earned my income in Naira, yet I paid all her fees abroad. For fifteen years, I worked hard and sent money overseas. And now what? Last week, she called and asked for a divorce. She told me, “We don’t really have a marriage anymore “.
The revelation comes just a week after Bakassi publicly celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary with Ezinne.
He shared a video collage featuring his wife and their three children, reflecting on how they met, separated while pursuing higher education, and later reunited.
The actor said they were not trying to break records or prove anyone wrong but were simply living their lives and showing themselves they had made the right choice.
On their 20th anniversary, Bakassi recalled the challenges they faced, noting that many people doubted their love. He praised his wife as they celebrated 20 years of love, sacrifice, friendship and tolerance.
He also celebrated their 19th anniversary with a heartfelt message, promising to love Ezinne forever.
For their 18th anniversary, he recalled how she married him when he was young and struggling, adding that they now enjoy the fruits of their hard work with their three children.
