Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested Zazzayanu Halilu for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl inside a car on Oct. 2.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said officers on routine patrol around Airport Bridge Taxi Park noticed a fully tinted navy blue Volkswagen, registration number KMC567LQ, parked with its windows wound up. She said the vehicle was also shaking.
According to Adeh, the officers became suspicious, approached the car and opened it, where they allegedly found Halilu raping the minor.
She said the suspect was immediately arrested while the girl was rescued. Preliminary investigation showed that Halilu had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl several times in the same vehicle at the location. He also allegedly threatened to “deal with her” if she told anyone about the abuse.
Adeh added that a medical examination showed the victim is about three months pregnant as a result of the abuse.
The girl is receiving medical care and assessment, while the suspect remains in Police custody. He will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
Adeh urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or call 08032003913 or 08028940883.
