Arsenal legend Paul Merson has backed Manchester United to miss out on the Premier League top five this season.
Merson made the prediction ahead of United’s Premier League derby against Manchester City on Sunday.
The former Arsenal star believes Michael Carrick’s team lacks enough depth and remains weak at the back.
“The squad is not big enough,” Merson said of Manchester United as quoted by Sky Sports.
He also questioned United’s defensive strength after they conceded twice against Everton.
“Defensively, they are nowhere near good enough. They let in two goals against Everton.
“So I am worried, and this is why I didn’t put Manchester United in my top five at the start of the season. Nothing’s changed for me since then. When you draw games, it hurts you.”
