Taofeek Adegoke, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, has drawn attention on social media after a video showed him sharing boiled corn with supporters during a roadside outing.
In the viral video, Adegoke stood beside a pot of freshly boiled corn and personally handed it to supporters who gathered around him, stretching out their hands to collect the food.
Many of those at the scene greeted the ADC candidate as “Mr Governor,” while some insisted on receiving the corn directly from him, describing the gesture as “a blessing.”
The clip has divided opinion online.
Some social media users praised Adegoke, saying the moment showed his humility and readiness to relate with ordinary people. Others, however, wondered if the display was part of a campaign effort to win public support.
The outing comes as political activities continue to build ahead of the Oyo governorship election, with candidates stepping up grassroots campaigns to reach more voters.
Public displays of simplicity have become common during election campaigns in Nigeria, where politicians often visit local markets, buy from roadside food sellers, ride commercial motorcycles and take part in community activities to connect with the people.
