A Kaduna Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari on Tuesday heard a case brought by Lawal Hamisu, a father of 11, asking the court to order his daughter, Fatima Lawal, to find a suitor and get married.
Speaking through his lawyer, H.B. Debo, Hamisu told the court that his 27-year-old daughter had completed her Higher National Diploma (HND). He said she had many admirers over the years but had not introduced any serious suitor.
“She should get a suitor, present him in court and the court should marry her off since her mother has poisoned their minds against me,” he said.
Responding, Fatima told the court that she did not have a serious suitor. She said none of the men who admired her had proposed marriage.
Presiding Judge, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, described the matter as sensitive because it involved a father and his daughter. He said he would meet with each of them separately to better understand the situation before giving further advice.
The judge then adjourned the case until August 3 for ruling.
