The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, has continued to fall in parts of Nigeria for the past three weeks.
A market survey by Daily Post found that the price of 1kg of cooking gas has dropped to as low as N1,300 in Abuja and nearby areas, depending on the location. This is down from about N1,450.
At Ranoil, Shafa and AP Ardova filling stations in Abuja, LPG is now sold for N1,350, N1,300 and N1,400 per kilogram, respectively. The stations previously sold it for between N1,450 and N1,500 per kilogram.
Depot owners have also reduced their prices, now selling LPG for between N997 and N1,030 per kilogram, compared with as much as N1,100 previously.
Retail prices have followed the same trend. Most LPG sellers in Dawaki, Kubwa, Gwarimpa and Lugbe now sell cooking gas for N1,500 per kilogram, down from around N1,700.
The drop in price comes as LPG imports into Nigeria have risen sharply.
Data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) showed that LPG imports rose by 1,400 percent to 1.5 kilotonnes per day in June 2026.
